JM4623 - Sashiko Ump Pants - 280 Iron Navy

The same sashiko fabric Jackman developed for the BB Cap shows up here in a trouser cut, and on the body it reads closer to raw denim than anything you'd expect from cotton. The No. 20 yarn is twisted to its limit on a specialized loom by a martial arts equipment manufacturer founded in 1918, producing a surface with real weight and structure that gives the pant an exceptional drape. It's then paraffin-waxed and bio-washed to soften the hand for everyday wear. The cut is modeled on umpire pants, with a large pocket running waist to hip that adds to the utilitarian character of an already compelling fabric. In early 1920s Japan, sashiko-stitched cloth was the material of choice for baseball bases, first through third, making this particular fabrication about as literally baseball-appropriate as fabric can get.

  • 100% cotton sashiko fabric
  • No. 20 twisted cotton yarn
  • Paraffin-waxed and bio-washed
  • Umpire pant silhouette
  • Pleated Front
  • Large pocket from waist to hip
  • Made in Japan

A variance of .5" is within tolerance.

Fit Notes: The nice thing about this style of pant is that you can wear a variety of sizes depending on the intended fit. Tommy snagged a large in all the pants this round. He wanted them to fit with that intended roomy and flowy feel. These have a nice taper, so if even if you go a little oversized, you'll still have a tailored look. Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
