The Wonder Looper Sharinbai Dorozome Max Crewneck Tee starts with the same 280gsm jersey blended from recycled cotton collected during yarn spinning, offcuts from the Double Heavyweight T-shirt, and extra-long staple cotton, knitted at low tension and slow speed for a fabric that is soft, bouncy, and richly slubby throughout. The texture variations within the cloth absorb color at slightly different rates, which makes it a particularly compelling canvas for natural dyeing. The process begins with Sharinbai, a tree native to Amami Island in southern Japan whose wood yields a warm, rosy natural dye applied by hand using methods passed down through generations. The process is then completed with dorozome, Amami's renowned mud-dyeing technique, where the garment is repeatedly immersed in iron-rich mud baths. With each cycle, minerals bond deeper into the fibers, gradually darkening the shade until it reaches an almost black tone that can only be built layer by layer through this kind of time-intensive, hand-done work. Each piece comes out slightly different, and that is entirely the point.

Fit Notes: Shop owner Tommy is wearing a size large. This is considered an athletic fit which reads to us as a roomier, more American cut. It's not often we see Japanese brands with that sort of cut, but the Wonder Looper owners built this brand with specifically that in mind. The medium fit well in the past, but Tommy has been wearing more roomy cuts. Tommy is our standard fit model at 5'9," 165lbs with a 41" chest.
