D1904s - 16oz "Futa-Ai" Selvedge Jeans - Regular Straight
The Studio D'Artisan D1904S Futa-Ai is the rarest pair of jeans we've ever stocked, and we mean that with full sincerity. In all the years we've been doing this, we have never seen a pair of jeans in this color. Futa-Ai dates back to Japan's Heian period, a dye combination of Tokushima natural indigo and madder root that was reserved exclusively for nobility and high-ranking officials between 794 and 1185 AD. The resulting color carries a depth, warmth, and complexity that standard indigo simply cannot replicate, shifting between a deep blue-violet and something richer and earthier depending on how the light hits the extra-slubby extra-loose textured weave. Studio D'Artisan applies that dyeing tradition to a 16oz unsanforized selvedge, rinsed to remove shrinkage, that will develop surface character unlike anything a rope-dyed jean can produce as the natural dyes and slubby construction interact over time. The regular straight fit carries a medium rise and roomy top block that makes the weight easy to live in, and the construction details throughout, copper rivets, raised belt loops, chain-stitched hems, hidden coin pocket selvedge, and a natural leather patch, are exactly what you'd expect from SDA at their absolute best. This is a truly singular piece, and we don't expect to see it again.

Fit Notes: These fit like a traditional pair of Studio D'artisan, which is smaller than most brands. Tommy is wearing a 34, which is his normal size. These fit pretty spot on for the intended straight fit. That being said, we would still recommend sizing up at least once in this denim. Tommy is 5'9," 165lbs with a 33-34" waist.
